What does my customer see on their bank statement when paying?

Learn what your customer sees on their bank statement when a payment is made through Adifn.

Written by Angus Tylee

What your customer sees depends on how they pay. In most cases it's your statement name, typically your business name, which you set during sign up. You can check or update it in Settings > Company in the Adfin console.

Pay by bank, cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay

Your customer sees your statement name throughout: in their bank app or wallet when authorising the payment, and on their bank statement afterwards. For card payments, the recipient only appears in their bank app if their bank asks for additional authentication.

Pay by bank payments also carry a unique payment reference.

Direct debit

Direct debits work differently. The recipient shown on your customer's bank statement will be one of the following:

  • Adfin

  • Adfingbbacs

  • Adyen N.V

Alongside this, the payment reference shows a short form of your business name, so your customers can recognise the collection as relating to you. For example, a collection for a business called 'Acme Ltd' would show a reference beginning 'ACMELTD'.

Note: If your account was created before September 2025, your business name will not come through on the reference automatically, but you can switch it on by upgrading your account here. You do not need to opt into Adfin Custom for this.

Adfin Custom: show your business name as the recipient

If you would like your business name to replace the recipient name (Adfin) on your customers' bank statements, you can opt in to Adfin Custom. This makes it easier for clients to reconcile payments and helps reduce direct debit reversals, since they're more likely to recognise the payment. Due to increased Bacs payment scheme costs, this option is charged at £36 per month.

Adfin Custom can only be selected at one of two points: during onboarding when you complete verification, or, if your account was created before September 2025, when you upgrade your account.

Want to cancel Adfin Custom? You can cancel at any time and the monthly charge stops from your next bill. Just message us via live chat (the Get Help button in the bottom left of the Adfin console) and we'll take care of it.

What if my client doesn't recognise the direct debit?

If your client contacts you saying they do not recognise a direct debit from Adfin, Adfingbbacs, or Adyen N.V., reassure them that this is a payment they authorised through your business. You can point them to the original mandate authorisation email as confirmation. To avoid this confusion in future, consider opting into Adfin Custom so your business name appears on their bank statement instead.
