💡 This guide covers:
What you can ask and do
Connecting Adfin to your AI assistant, and choosing a business if you have several
Making Adfin ask before every change
What the connector can't do
Disconnecting
The Adfin connector links your Adfin account to an AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, so you can ask about your account in plain English and have the assistant make changes in Adfin for you. Answers come from your live Adfin account, and anything the assistant does runs as you, with the same access as your Adfin login.
You may also see it called the Adfin MCP server. MCP is the standard AI assistants use to connect to other software.
What you can ask and do
Your assistant can look things up and make changes across much of your day-to-day work in Adfin.
Ask about your account
For example:
"Which customers owe me the most at the moment, and how overdue are they?"
"Has Harbour Dental set up their direct debit yet?"
"Could you break down my last payout and tell me which invoices it covered?"
"When will Adfin next be in touch with Oakley Joinery, and what will it send?"
Ask your assistant to make changes
Your assistant can:
create, send and void invoices and payment requests, and mark them as paid
split an invoice into instalments
set up, change or cancel recurring invoices and payment requests
create a direct debit sign-up link for a customer, and cancel or reinstate a mandate
ask a customer to save a card on file
add and update customers, tag them, and pause or resume collection
create and change collection agents, and move customers between them
manage payment links, products, tax rates and tags
For example: "Northfield Architects can't pay INV-0042 in one go. Please split it into three monthly instalments."
Your assistant can only do what your Adfin role allows. For example, if you're a Viewer, it can answer your questions but can't change anything. There's more on roles in Manage your team and accounts on Adfin.
Connect Adfin to your AI assistant
During early access: add Adfin as a custom connector
While Adfin MCP is in early access, you add it to your assistant yourself. The steps are much the same in every assistant:
Please open your assistant's settings for connectors (see the table below) and add a custom connector. Some assistants call it a custom app or a custom MCP server.
Enter Adfin as the name and https://agents.adfin.com/mcp as the server URL.
Sign in to Adfin with your usual login.
Adfin shows what your assistant is asking to access. Click Authorise.
Assistant | Where to add Adfin | Good to know |
Claude | Customize > Connectors, then + Add > Add custom connector | On Team or Enterprise, an Owner adds Adfin first, in Organization settings > Connectors. |
ChatGPT | Plugins, then the + button > Add custom MCP server | Available on Business, Enterprise and Edu. An admin or owner adds Adfin for your workspace first. |
Gemini | Settings > Connected Apps, then Add a custom app, on gemini.google.com | Only for personal Google accounts in the US, for people aged 18 or over. On Gemini Enterprise, your admin adds Adfin: please get in touch via live chat for the sign-in details they'll need. |
On a work plan, once your admin has added Adfin, everyone connects with their own Adfin login, so your activity log shows who did what.
Coming soon: find Adfin in the Claude and ChatGPT directories
We're listing Adfin in Claude's and ChatGPT's connector directories. Once it's there, you'll be able to find Adfin in your assistant, click to connect, then sign in to Adfin and click Authorise, with no address to copy.
If you have more than one business
You can connect one Adfin business to one AI assistant account. To switch to a different business, disconnect Adfin (see Disconnect Adfin below) and connect again, choosing the other business.
Make Adfin ask before every change
Your assistant normally asks you to confirm before it changes anything in Adfin. You can turn this off in your connector settings, choosing to always allow Adfin.
If you'd like every change approved, whoever makes it, an admin can turn on Adfin's own check as well. It's off until you turn it on, it applies to everyone at your business who uses the connector, and it can't be switched off from the assistant.
in Adfin, please click Settings > Security > Account.
Turn on Require human in the loop for any MCP action.
From then on, before anything is created, sent or changed in Adfin, Adfin asks in your assistant, describing the change, for example: Send invoice INV-0042? It will be sent to the customer and Adfin will start collecting on it. Nothing changes until you say yes.
What our MCP can't do
A few things stay out of your assistant's reach on purpose:
Refunds. Adfin doesn't process refunds, through an assistant or in the console.
Payouts. Your assistant can show you your payouts and explain what's in them, but it can't change them.
Your payout bank details. Your assistant can't change the bank account your payouts go to.
Your team and account set-up. Inviting people, changing roles, verification and your accounting software connection are all managed in the Adfin console.
Disconnect Adfin
You disconnect Adfin in your AI assistant, not in Adfin. Please find Adfin where you added it (see the table above) and remove it. Once it's removed, your assistant can no longer reach your Adfin account. On a work plan, your admin can remove Adfin for everyone from their admin settings.
