  • What partial payments are

  • How to configure partial payments

  • How customers make a partial payment

  • How to track partial payments

Overview of partial payments

Partial payments allow your customers to pay part of an invoice or payment request when paying On Demand.

When partial payments are enabled:

  • Customers can choose how much they want to pay.

  • You can set a minimum payment amount.

  • Customers can make multiple payments until the balance is fully paid.

Partial payments are currently configured at account level. This means that once enabled, the option will be available to all customers, invoices and payment requests.

Configure partial payments

You can turn partial payments on from Payment settings.

  1. Go to Payment settings.

  2. Enable Partial payments.

  3. Set a minimum partial payment amount.

The minimum amount is the smallest value a customer can pay when making a partial payment.

These settings apply across:

  • All customers

  • All invoices

  • All payment requests

How customers make a partial payment

Once partial payments are enabled, customers will see the option when paying On Demand invoices and payment requests.

On the payment page:

  1. The customer selects the edit icon next to the amount due.

  2. They enter the amount they want to pay.

The amount must be equal to or above the minimum you’ve set in your settings.
If the outstanding balance is already below the minimum, the amount cannot be edited.

The customer then completes the payment as normal.

After payment:

  • They receive confirmation of the payment.

  • They’ll see the remaining balance still due.

If you’re using chasing workflows, reminders will continue to be sent until the invoice or payment request is fully paid.

Track partial payments

When a customer makes a partial payment:

  • The payment is applied to the invoice or payment request.

  • The outstanding balance is reduced.

  • The payment appears in the activity log.

Accounting integrations

If you’re using Adfin with Xero or QuickBooks, partial payments are synced automatically in the same way as standard payments.

For invoices, this means the outstanding balance in your accounting software is reduced accordingly.

Payouts

Partial payments are included in payouts in the same way as full payments.
You can view them in the Transactions dashboard, where they’re clearly marked as partial payments.
